Alemannia

More than a
fraternity.

A WAY OF LIFE

Our Principles

As members of a fraternity, our commitment extends beyond our years of study. We dedicate ourselves to a lifelong bond, supporting new members in their academic journey and helping them transition successfully into professional life.

Ehre

Honour. Our honour reflects the personal integrity and mutual respect that binds us together. It is upheld through lifelong loyalty, ethical conduct, and the courage to stand by one’s convictions.

Freiheit

Freedom. Our shared value of fredsom represents the intellectual and personal liberty that fraternities cherish—fostering open debate, critical thinking, and the pursuit of truth within a community of equals.

Vaterland

It signifies a deep-rooted connection to one’s cultural heritage and responsibility toward society. It is not about nationalism, but about contributing to the common good and preserving values that strengthen democratic and civic life.

Since 1919

Our History

Founded in Friedberg, Hesse, on May 1, 1919, as a free fraternity. We began fencing in 1920, joining local fraternities and adopting the “Burschenschaft” tradition. This tradition unites us with fraternities across Germany.

Become the Greatest Version of Yourself

We encourage our members not only to study, but also to get in touch with other members of fraternities around Germany and the world to improve themselves and look over the edge.

Adaptive Leadership

empowers members to lead with resilience and flexibility in a changing world. It encourages initiative, critical thinking, and the courage to evolve while staying true to core values.

Fulfilled Potential

reflects the fraternity’s commitment to personal growth. Through mentorship, challenge, and support, each member is inspired to discover and develop their unique strengths—academically, professionally, and personally.

Lifelong Engagement

means that fraternity bonds do not end with graduation. Members remain connected, offering guidance, sharing experience, and contributing to a vibrant, intergenerational community that thrives across time.

Our Commitments

Help Our Members Become the Greatest Versions of Themselves

Each semester, we have the opportunity to attend lectures covering a broad range of topics, enriching our academic and personal development. Beyond the classroom, we organize social events such as cigar evenings and wine tastings, where we connect with friends and professionals in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.

In Germany, gaining practical work experience is essential for a successful career start. That’s why we actively support our members in securing internships, student jobs, and networking opportunities—both during their studies and after graduation.

Experience Community in Brand-New Ways

From academic events in small rounds with experts in their fields to four-day festival blowouts, experience the entirety of all that student life has to offer with us.

Alcohol-Free Housing, or Free Housing For Alcoholics?

Many of the stereotypes surrounding german fraternities focus on depictions of alcohol-fuelled debauchery. This unfortunate public image, however, is one we have always  tried  our utmost to dispel. Since its inception, the Alemannia has always striven for academic excellence, with the notions of personal development and further education being two of our  most cherished values.
