The Deutsche Burschenschaft (DB) is a corporate organisation of fraternities, a specific form of student fraternity, in Germany and Austria. It was founded in 1881 as the Allgemeiner Deputierten-Convent (ADC) and was given its current name in 1902. It can be traced back to the ideas associated with the founding of the Urburschenschaft in Jena in 1815.
Every Year the Umbrella Organisation “Deutsche Burschenschaft” is organizing a general Conferenz with its over 4500 Members to discuss all matters of the Organisation itself and also of the student life in general.
The Burschenschafterturm was part of the Maximilian Tower Line in Linz built in the early 19th century.
Today, the Burschenschafterturm serves as a memorial to the fallen of both world wars, as a memorial and museum of the German fraternity and as a reminder that there is a spiritual bond that transcends borders and individual states and encompasses the German national and cultural area.
The history of the fraternity movement begins in 1815 with the founding of the original fraternity and continues through various associations of fraternities, many historical events, political participation in revolutions, parliaments and the difficult period of National Socialism to the present day. Honour, freedom, fatherland – for us, these are inseparable values that have to be revived and rethought from generation to generation, but which nevertheless represent a solid framework of values for eternity.
Founded in 2016 due to political differences between conservative and liberal fraternities in the “Deutsche Burschenschaft” Umbrella Org.
The “Allgemeine Deutsche Burschenschaft” is organinzing its Conferences annually in Jena.
